Avia Solutions Group ― our history since our inception in 2005

Through years of dedication and commitment, the group has grown substantially through organic growth as well as a series of mergers and acquisitions. Securing key investments has also contributed to the development of what Avia Solutions Group is today ― a leading global aerospace group and the world’s largest ACMI provider.

Aug
  • AirExplore signed a contract with Nigeria’s Air Peace to lease four Boeing 737-800 aircraft under a damp-lease agreement from November 2024 to March 2025. The aircraft will be based in Lagos to support the airline’s operational capacity.
  • BBN Airlines Indonesia received regulatory approval to operate in Australian airspace through the issuance of a Foreign Air Transport Air Operators Certificate (FATAOC) from Australia’s Civil Aviation Safety Authority (CASA). This allows BBN Airlines Indonesia to begin commercial operations in Australia, further expanding its capabilities within the Australian and Asian markets.

  • Magma Aviation expanded its global footprint by opening a new office in Dubai and adding an Airbus A321-200P2F and a Boeing B737-800BCF to its fleet. The new freighters, based in the UAE and the Middle East, will boost cargo transport and enhance global connectivity, while the Dubai office will support the company’s increased operations and growing demand in the region.
  • Baltic Ground Services (BGS) began offering IATA-certified Passenger Ground Services and Airport Ramp Services courses to employees of Avia Solutions Group. These courses, developed in collaboration with Kazimieras Simonavicius University (KSU) and based on IATA-designed programs, are aimed at strengthening employees' expertise in ground handling and logistics.
  • AviaAM Leasing successfully completed a significant project involving the sale of parted-out Pratt & Whitney PW4056-3 engine components. Previously mounted on a B747-400F aircraft, the engine was dismantled in collaboration with ATOPS to market its parts individually.

  • AirExplore expanded its cargo capacity with the delivery of three B737-800 full freighter aircraft, bringing its fleet total to 17 — 9 for passenger and 8 for cargo services. These particular aircraft, strategically based in Europe and the Middle East, will help the airline use less fuel, reduce CO2 emissions, and lower noise levels.
  • KlasJet achieved IOSA (IATA Operational Safety Audit) registration, demonstrating its commitment to the highest operational and safety standards. This registration assures partners and passengers of KlasJet’s focus on providing a reliable and secure flying environment, enhancing its appeal as a cooperative partner for international carriers.
  • Baltic Ground Services (BGS) renewed its contracts with Ryanair at three airports, extending their long-standing partnership. Starting April 1, 2024, BGS will continue to provide into-plane fuelling services for Ryanair at Vilnius and Palanga airports in Lithuania, and Leoš Janáček Airport Ostrava in the Czech Republic.

  • Aviator Airport Alliance, serving 15 airports across the Nordics, received significant honors from Japan Airlines for its Helsinki station. The awards included 'Station of the Year 2022-2023' and special recognition for outstanding ramp handling performance.
  • Avia Solutions Group issued $300 million in senior unsecured bonds with a 5-year tenure at a 9.75% rate. This issuance included refinancing an existing $180 million bond. The surplus funds will be allocated to the Group’s strategic business development initiatives.
  • Avion Express joined the Latin American and Caribbean Air Transport Association (ALTA) to strengthen its presence in the Latin American market through its subsidiary in Brazil. This achievement reflects the company's commitment to growing its influence in the region.

  • Avia Solutions Group, through its subsidiary BAA Training, launched the Pilot Runway program — a financed training initiative with a job guarantee. This program, designed to support the organization’s global expansion and growth, will be operated in partnership with the Group’s ACMI companies, beginning with Avion Express.
  • Ascend Airways secured an updated Air Operator Certificate, Type A Operating License, and Route License from the United Kingdom Civil Aviation Authority (CAA), allowing it to commence flights and granting unrestricted access to the UK ACMI and charter market.
  • SmartLynx Airlines invested over 6 million euros in upgrading cabin interiors and improving maintenance processes to enhance customer experience. This investment is part of the airline's cabin upgrade program, which began in 2023, and includes the purchase and installation of Recaro seats, high-quality carpets, and seat covers.

  • Avia Solutions Group finalized the acquisition of the Australian airline Skytrans, which operates a fleet of 13 regional aircraft and specializes in Regular Public Transport (RPT) and charter operations. With this acquisition, the Group secures an Australian Air Operator Certificate (AOC).
  • BBN Airlines Indonesia received an additional Air Operator Certificate (AOC) for commercial passenger flights from the Indonesia DGCA, reaffirming the airline’s readiness to operate commercial aircraft and deliver safe, reliable, and efficient air travel services to the Indonesian public.
  • AviaAM Leasing transported its second Boeing B777-300ER for passenger-to-freighter conversion, with Mammoth Freighters LLC, a Boeing Licensee, handling the process. Once converted, the aircraft will have the capacity to carry 99.79 tons of cargo on transatlantic routes and is expected to serve EU-USA or China-EU trunk routes.

  • BBN Airlines Indonesia announced the addition of three Boeing 737-800 fleets and one Boeing 737-400F fleet to strengthen the airline's position in the Indonesian market. This partnership involves the leasing of a 737-800 aircraft, which will be based at Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka, Bangladesh, operating flights to multiple destinations across the Middle East and Asia.
  • KlasJet entered a 3-month-long contract with US-Bangla Airlines Ltd., the largest private airline in Bangladesh. This partnership involved the leasing of a 737-800 aircraft, which was based at Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka, Bangladesh, operating flights to multiple destinations across the Middle East and Asia.
  • AviaAM Leasing announced the successful delivery of a Boeing 747-400F aircraft to the Challenge Group — an international air cargo group comprising eight synergistic divisions and three airlines: Challenge Airlines IL, Challenge Airlines BE, and Challenge Air Cargo. The delivery of the Boeing 747-400F took place in Liege, Belgium.

  • Avion Express announced the successful integration of an Electronic Technical Log (ETL) system across its fleet. This marked a significant step forward in terms of effectiveness and sustainability for the company, making Avion Express the first airline in Lithuania to completely replace paper logbooks with a state-of-the-art electronic system.
  • Avia Solutions Group signed a Share Purchase Agreement to acquire Australian airline, Skytrans. The acquisition process was set for completion in March 2024, subject to the fulfilment of specific transaction conditions.

  • Avion Express officially began the process to obtain an Air Operator Certificate (AOC) in Brazil.
  • FL Technics built its second MRO facility, expanding its business portfolio and service capacity in Indonesia.
  • Aviator Airport Alliance announced the expansion of a strategic collaboration with the Lufthansa Group. The expanded arrangement was effective from December 2023 until November 2026 and applies to the Aviator-operated station in Gothenburg, Sweden (GOT).

  • FL Technics became the first independent AMO (Aircraft Maintenance Organization) service provider at Abu Dhabi Terminal A. This milestone underscored FL Technics' expertise and potential in the region, offering a comprehensive suite of GCAA-certified AMO solutions to airlines operating from this strategic hub.
  • Avia Solutions Group continued its expansion into the Asia-Pacific region with the establishment of BBN Airlines Thailand. After recently submitting the necessary documents and looking forward to receiving the AOL (Air Operator License) soon followed by an AOC certificate in October 2024, BBN Airlines Thailand is prepared to offer fully customized ACMI solutions in the region.
  • BAA Training expanded its aircraft fleet by acquiring 48 Cessna 172 Skyhawks from Textron Aviation. This was an important step in developing the biggest pilot training base in Europe, Spain. The company aims to accommodate up to 1000 students per year.
  • KlasJet announced the commencement of ACMI operations in Canada after obtaining a Canadian Foreign Air Operator Certificate (FAOC).
Oct
  • Chapman Freeborn assisted with the transportation of six Bell helicopters on a singular charter from Greece to Australia. Operated by McDermott Aviation, the Bell214ST and Bell214B helicopters arrived back in Australia on the morning of October 18th 2023, landing at Toowoomba Wellcamp Airport (WTB).
  • Avia Solutions Group joined the United Nations Global Compact initiative — a voluntary leadership platform for the development, implementation, and disclosure of responsible business practices.
  • JETMS Completions acquired Waypoint Aerotec, a certified Design Organization. This strategic move expanded JETMS Completions’ already comprehensive service portfolio, further strengthening its position in both the UK & global aviation market.

  • BAA Training held the opening ceremony of its brand-new pilot training facility in France, located close to Paris-Orly Airport. This expansion project was primarily inspired by a collaboration with Transavia France and required a 30 million EUR investment. The training center, offering simulator wet and dry lease services, is projected to train at least 2000 pilots annually.
  • BBN Airlines Indonesia joined Indonesia’s aviation market, providing ACMI services as a relatively new concept for the region.
  • FL Technics attained the prestigious certificate as Top Employer for 2023. This recognition, awarded by the Top Employers Institute, reflects FL Technics' continuous effort and investments to create a progressive work environment and ensures the positive wellbeing of the ever-growing team in Lithuania and across the globe.
  • BGS announced the extension of its partnership with Turkish Airlines, the flag carrier of Turkey, for ground handling services at Vilnius International Airport for 3 years. Under the agreement, BGS will handle Turkish Airlines flights twice daily from VNO which rises to three times daily during the summer.

  • FL Technics Indonesia (PT Avia Technics Dirgantara) and PT Angkasa Pura Properti, together with PT Angkasa Pura I (Persero), started the development of a 17,000 sq. m. aircraft MRO hub, the first at I Gusti Ngurah Rai International Airport (DPS) in Bali. FL Technics is set to invest US$25 million in the initial stage to undertake an MRO construction and development project set to be finished within a year.
  • Avion Express expanded its fleet to a total of 50 aircraft. This significant accomplishment was attributed to the rising global demand for ACMI services and serves as a testament to the airline's commitment to growth.
  • BGS acquired Naftelf Eesti AS, one of the largest Into-Plane Fuelling companies at Lennart Meri Tallinn Airport. With this acquisition, BGS is expanding and strengthening its presence in the Estonian aircraft market.
Jul
  • Sensus Aero signed a contract with SIA Gulfstream Oil Ltd., a Latvian fuelling company. Under the 6-year-long agreement, Sensus Aero will provide into-plane fuelling software solutions to optimise the company’s operations at Riga International Airport.
  • Avia Solutions Group, one of the world’s largest ACMI providers, has acquired UK-based airline operator Synergy Aviation, Ltd., later to be rebranded, Ascend Airways. The newly purchased business, which has an Air Operator Certificate (AOC) and Type B Operating License from the UK CAA, will enable the Group to strengthen its position in the UK aviation market.
  • BAA Training signed an agreement with the Academy of Civil Aviation of Kazakhstan for consulting services. In line with this strategic partnership, BAA Training aims to support the organization in preparations for European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) certification, set to take place in 2025.
  • Storm Aviation, part of FL Technics, has signed a 5-year line maintenance contract with Norse Atlantic to perform maintenance services at London-Gatwick Airport. The newly signed agreement sees Storm Aviation perform line maintenance services on the Norse B787 fleet of Trent 1000-powered aircraft.

  • Following a successful short-term agreement, KlasJet entered into a year-long contract with FlyEgypt, an Egyptian low-cost and charter airline, for wet-leasing services. This partnership involved the leasing of a Boeing aircraft, which will be based at Hurghada International Airport and operate flights to multiple destinations across Europe.
  • Avia Solutions Group acquired the Slovak ACMI and charter airline, AirExplore. The acquisition of the airline, which is based and headquartered in Bratislava, comes as the next step in Avia Solutions Group’s business development plans worldwide.
May
  • BGS signed a new partnership agreement with Scandinavian Airlines (SAS), the flag carrier of Denmark, Norway, and Sweden. Under the contract BGS will provide the airline with ground handling services at Vilnius Airport for a period of 3 years, starting 1st of May 2023. BGS will support 20-30 flights for SAS per week.
  • JETMS Holdings continued its business expansion after the recent launch of a new hangar space in Kaunas. The company’s subsidiary JetMS Regional (JETMS) will increase maintenance capabilities to offer more quality services based on clients' needs starting from November 2023.
  • Avion Express, planned to expand in South America by establishing an Air Operator Certificate (AOC) under Brazilian regulations for its ACMI / charter airline operations throughout the region.

  • In quick response to the recently announced changes in European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) guidelines, Aeroclass began offering digital cabin crew training to aviation training organizations, becoming the first in the market to do so.
  • JETMS Holdings broadened its services portfolio, with a primary focus on interior solutions. To facilitate this expansion, JETMS Holdings is opened a new hangar space in Kaunas, Lithuania, to ensure the seamless execution of its enhanced capabilities.
  • AeroTime announced a new collaboration with Revolution.Aero, an Advanced Air Mobility conference, becoming their official media partner.
  • Avia Solutions Group reported financial results for 2022 had doubled: revenue increased to €1,9 billion, EBITDA at €288 million, and adjusted profit totalling €85 million.

  • AviaAM Leasing announced another delivery of a 737-800 Boeing Converted Freighter. This is the fourth aircraft in the Passenger-to-Freighter (P2F) conversion program.
  • BAA Training partnered with Airways Aviation Academy (ESMA), the largest privately owned multidisciplinary aviation academies based in France.
  • Avia Solutions Group became an Irish-based company. The company's financial instruments on the Dublin Stock Exchange were purchased by the world's largest institutional investors from the USA and Europe.

  • Avia Solutions Group subsidiary Aviator extended its partnership with Finnair for 5 more years, providing ramp handling services at Helsinki Airport.
  • Avia Solutions Group subsidiary KlasJet began ACMI operations and added 8 Boeing 737-800 aircraft to its fleet.
  • Avia Solutions Group subsidiary Aviator signed a partnership agreement with Lufthansa Group for 5 years, under which the Aviator will be providing ground handling and de-/anti-icing services at Stockholm-Arlanda Airport.
