Avion Express, a globally leading narrow-body ACMI (Aircraft, Crew, Maintenance, and Insurance) operator, is expanding its team with over 40 pilot positions in Mexico to support its continued growth in the Latin American market. The company currently operates a fleet of 55 Airbus A320 aircraft worldwide and partners with well-known airlines around the globe.
An ACMI Pioneer in LATAM
ACMI services involve providing aircraft, crew, maintenance, and insurance to other airlines. This model is widely used in Europe and allows carriers to quickly scale capacity, manage seasonal peaks, or cover temporary fleet shortages. Avion Express is a leading global ACMI provider with a growing focus on Latin America. The company recently opened an Air Operator Certificate (AOC) in Brazil and is currently recruiting a CEO to lead its future AOC in Mexico.
While the company has not yet launched direct operations in Mexico, it already has experience in this market through long-term collaborations and partnerships with local carriers.
Latin America is increasingly embracing the ACMI model, especially as post-pandemic air travel surges. Mexico welcomed over 45 million international tourists in 2024, surpassing pre-pandemic levels. Domestic air travel is also rising — up 4.4% from 2017 to 2024, according to ALTA. With this growing demand, airlines in the region are seeing the value of flexible capacity when it’s needed most, and Avion Express is positioned to help meet that need.
Searching for pilots in Mexico
As the Latin American market continues to grow, Avion Express is inviting qualified Mexican A320 pilots to join its global team. This initiative is part of the company’s strategy to strengthen operations in the region by adding local expertise and improving efficiency.
Kristina Mateikaite-Riepsiene, Head of Crew Recruitment at Avion Express, explains that building a local pilot team aligns with the company’s long-term plans:
“As a global operator, we adapt to the needs of our airline partners, respect cultural differences, and provide flexibility in operations. Mexico is a strategic market for our expansion, and establishing a local crew base is a relevant and practical step. We are now opening more than 40 pilot positions in this region and are ready to welcome new team members.”
She also highlights that ACMI flying offers a different experience compared to traditional airline operations, with a highly international working environment.
“Avion Express operates from 17 global bases and has a multicultural team representing 64 nationalities. We currently offer opportunities for Mexican pilots based in Mexico, but in the future, the possibilities are unlimited. Since we operate across all five continents and regularly adjust our bases based on partnerships, the company can provide truly global opportunities. With 64 nationalities already in the team, we are confident that Mexican pilots will integrate easily into our organization,” Mateikaite-Riepsiene adds.
