Easter holiday up in the sky

Many people national holidays spend together with families though civil aviation and employees working inside the system are revolving 24/7 365 days per year. It reminds us that sometimes pilots, flight attendants and other aviation employees are spending their holidays up in the sky with another “family”. Baltic Aviation Academy decided to ask aviation personnel how they celebrate Easter during working days.  

‘It happened more than once that I had to work through the Easter holidays. Even though the flight is full of numerous mandatory procedures, the cabin crew always manages to bring the holiday mood for their colleagues and passengers. Staff usually exchanges Easter eggs, passengers are greeted by giving free drinks or chocolate eggs – the uplifted festival spirit is sensed even high in the sky’, said Dainuole Bartasuniene, ex-senior flight attendant and current Crew Resource Management instructor at Baltic Aviation Academy.

‘Leaving the real family down on the ground, cabin crew members want to share special atmosphere with people on board. Pilots prepare special speech greeting everyone or play music during the boarding process to make people smile. Flight attendants decorate board with Easter symbols wishing their passengers would feel like home even if they have to be apart from the dear ones‘, said Jurgita Baleviciene, ex-senior cabin attendant and current Quality Manager and instructor at Baltic Aviation Academy.

The spirit of Easter visits not only ones up in the sky flying, but also those who are just in the halfway to the aviation – students. 

‘This time I will spend Easter in Lithuania together with my classmates. I have already learned the customs of Lithuanian Easter, such as painting, boiling and exchanging Easter eggs amongst family and friends. Now I am more than excited to get introduced to the traditions of my classmate motherlands, such as Italy, France, Netherlands,’ said John Joseph Kasimba Omolo from Kenya, Private Pilot License student at Baltic Aviation Academy.
