Although private charter flights are often associated with luxury and comfort, there are several reasons why government delegations and representatives choose this mode of transportation beyond these aspects. Lukas Petrauskas, the CCO of KlasJet a well-known exclusive private and corporate jet charter company, and an ACMI service provider, highlights some of the other reasons why governments may opt for private charter flights.
High-risk countries and hot spots
Travelling to high-risk countries and hot spots presents significant challenges for government officials. Limited travel options, heightened security risks, and other logistical hurdles make it difficult for officials to enter such countries or locations. Private flights can provide a reliable solution to these challenges. “Organising and executing such flights requires exceptional attention to detail and intricate know-how that many airlines lack. Flights to and from hot spots require in-depth knowledge about the necessary documentation, permits, and security requirements for entering these locations,” explains Petrauskas. “Flying to high-risk countries is a challenging undertaking for governments, and they often require assistance from experienced private airlines to navigate these situations successfully.”
Ad hoc flights
Government representatives may require urgent travel arrangements, and private airlines can provide fast and reliable transportation on demand. “When time is of the essence, commercial airlines or other modes of transportation may not be suitable. Private flights offer flexible scheduling, direct flights without any layovers, allowing representatives or delegations to reach their destination quickly and efficiently,” he shares.
Increased security risks
Due to the escalating safety risks and the availability of simplified aircraft movement tracking online, many governments are now opting to forgo using state aircraft and instead, are chartering private jets. “Private jets offer increased safety, security, flexibility, and privacy, making them an attractive option for government officials who need to travel to potentially dangerous areas or maintain confidentiality. Private terminals and lounges ensure privacy and provide a more secure environment for passengers,” highlights Petrauskas.
Exceptional situations and events
Private air travel may not always be a choice but a necessity. “For example, during the NATO summit in Lithuania in 2023, the airspace will be closed to all commercial air travel, and only aircraft with special permissions will be allowed to enter. In such situations, political delegations may have to rely on private flights. By using experienced private charter airlines, delegations can simplify the planning process since the airlines are responsible for permits, documentation, and flight planning. This can help reduce the burden on government officials and enable them to focus on the objectives of their trip,” he explains.
Private air travel is not merely a symbol of luxury and prestige but also a practical solution for governments. “Private flights offer safety, flexibility, and adherence to changing situations and protocols that are of exceptional importance in political situations and allow government officials to operate efficiently and effectively in today's fast-paced and ever-changing world,” believes the CCO of KlasJet.
